XVI Russian-Chinese Culture and Art Fair Opens on Both Banks of the Amur

On July 3, 2026, the XVI International Festival “Russian-Chinese Culture and Art Fair” opened simultaneously on both banks of the Amur River — in Blagoveshchensk and Heihe. The large-scale cultural forum is aimed at strengthening mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and China through art, seeking common ground and openness to dialogue.

The legendary “Rossiya” ensemble named after Lyudmila Zykina was honored with the mission of opening the festival. The collective, known for its performances promoting the best traditions of Russian music, became this year’s distinguished participant in the opening ceremony. The concert program covered both sides of the Amur.

Over the years, the festival has featured legendary Russian ensembles such as the Pyatnitsky Choir, “Gzhel”, “Beryozka”, the Alexandrov Ensemble, the Ministry of Defense Orchestra, and the Godenko Siberian Ensemble. In 2026, the “Rossiya” ensemble took over the baton, confirming the high status of the Russian-Chinese cultural dialogue.

Beyond concerts, the fair includes a traditional exhibition and sale of works by masters of decorative and applied arts, exchanges of museum and library specialist delegations, as well as lectures, seminars, and master classes held throughout the festival. The leitmotif of the festival — “Two countries, two cultures, one friendship” — makes it one of the most significant joint cultural projects in the Far East.

The 16th Russian-Chinese Culture and Art Fair is part of a broader program of cross-border cultural cooperation. The event organizers reported that the fair focuses on five key pillars: mutual trust, integration, sharing, openness, and connectivity, with a total of 57 exciting activities planned. The initiative features breakthroughs in exchange mechanisms, activity formats, communication networks, cooperation models, technology applications, and industrial linkages, comprehensively showcasing the diverse appeal of Russian-Chinese cultural cooperation.

The fair coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and China, as well as the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Chinese strategic partnership of coordination. These milestones add special significance to the cultural celebrations along the border.
