Chinese Investors Turn to Russia’s Southern Regions as New Cooperation Hub Opens in Sochi

Chinese investors have expressed strong interest in development projects in Russia’s southern regions, including Sochi, Anapa, Krasnodar, and Tuapse. During the international Mallpic 7.0 exhibition-forum held in Sochi from May 20 to 24, 2026, which brought together over 3,000 professionals from the real estate, retail, and investment sectors, it was announced that a Center for Facilitating Chinese Business will open in Sochi this autumn.

The center will serve as a platform for implementing joint projects and supporting Chinese entrepreneurs and investors in southern Russia. Negotiations are underway with a group of Chinese investors ready to invest in development projects, production of construction and finishing materials, finance and trade, as well as robotics and artificial intelligence. Li Ming, a representative of the Association of Chinese Investors, confirmed interest in cooperation not only in business but also in tourism and cultural exchange.

Financial mechanisms that simplify settlements between Russia and China in yuan have already been established. The opening of the Center for Facilitating Chinese Business will make joint work even more convenient for entrepreneurs.

Experts attribute the growing interest of Chinese investors in Russia’s south to the development of tourist infrastructure and rising consumer demand in the region. The southern regions offer attractive opportunities for hotel development, resort infrastructure, and residential projects catering to both domestic and international tourists.

The Mallpic 7.0 forum also resulted in a cooperation agreement between the corporation “Ostrov Pervy” and the administration of Sukhumi in Abkhazia, involving comprehensive restoration of piers and coastal infrastructure — further evidence of the expanding footprint of real estate and infrastructure development in the broader Black Sea region.
